Short bio

Begoña Gutiérrez-Nieto is a full professor in Finance and an associate researcher at the Institute on Employment, Digital Society and Sustainability (IEDIS) at the University of Zaragoza. She is also an Associate Researcher at the Centre for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi) at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium). 
Her PhD on microfinance in Spain received the “Outstanding PhD Thesis Award”, “ESIC-CAI Research Award 2004” and the “La Caixa Research runner-up Award on Social Sciences 2004”. She also received the “First Prize on Quality Research on Human Development 2008” from the University Chancellors from Madrid for her research on microfinance institutions’ efficiency. Her paper entitled “A Credit Score System for Socially Responsible Lending” received the Best Published Research Article Award for the 2017 Finance and Sustainability European Research Award by United Nations PRI (Principles for Responsible Investment).
She has authored several research articles and books on microfinance. She has been the co-editor-in-chief of the Iberoamerican Journal of Development Studies.
